Flight FO 0802 · Now boarding at gate HOU

Working at the intersection of aviation and technology.
I’m a private pilot who designed and shipped FlightDesk, an AI ground-training app for student pilots, and I’m completing an M.S. in Management Information Systems at Texas Southern University.

01 · About GKY
I’ve been set on flying since I was five: airshows, a high-school aerospace program, and five years restoring aircraft with the Commemorative Air Force. In 2023 I earned my private pilot certificate in seven weeks and passed the checkride on the first attempt. Now I’m building FlightDesk and finishing an M.S. in MIS, working where flight operations meet systems, data and product.

A mobile-first training and readiness app for student pilots. The first release has one job: get students ready for the FAA private pilot knowledge test. Designed and built solo, from my own experience of ground study tools that were scattered and hard to trust.

Every answer traces back to FAA content I indexed and reviewed by hand. 4 sources: PHAK, AIM, 14 CFR, ACS.
Retrieval pulled in rules that don’t apply to private pilots — instructor and commercial requirements from Part 61, large and turbine aircraft rules from Part 91 Subpart F, oceanic procedures from the AIM — and they leaked into generated quiz questions.
Made once, inside the shared hybrid_search_faa database function, so every feature gets the same filter.
Ran adversarial queries built to pull out-of-scope rules, confirmed none came back, then cleaned the existing question bank in bulk.
✓How it’s built

- React 18, Vite 5, shared design tokens
- Mobile
- Capacitor 8 · Android build ready, iOS in progress
- Database
- Supabase Postgres, Row Level Security, pgvector

Security checklist
- API keys stay on the server and never reach the browser
- Students see only their own records and only approved questions
- Paid AI functions require sign-in, with per-user rate limits, request size caps and an origin allowlist
- In-app account deletion, as both app stores require
